OTRA is excited to offer a great selection of rides this year, so please check the calendar here for all dates and details. The majority will be joined venues, with OTRA and Chesley Saddle Club members welcome to attend.

NEWS: We have added a second full week in the Dufferin County Forest Main Tract. One will continue to be in July, and the new one  in late August, ending on Labour Day! Several new rides this year include the Saugeen Bluffs, South Algonquin, and in and around the Ganaraska Forest (require to be booked directly by the participant!). Updates will be added to the calendar as soon as details become available. Note, that all OTRA booked weekends at the Dufferin Forest will still be Friday to Monday to allow people the choice to not have to compete with the weekend travel on their way home. All Dufferin rides also continue to be FREE to attend for all our members, where several of the new ones will require individual bookings with a cost involved.

Early Bird 2024 Membership Drive! Simply send in your OTRA membership application form with payment any time from now on in order to qualify. This year's deadline for registrations received is February 29th to be eligible for a cash draw.

I saw an ad in the Rider saying you may have a small group ride for newbies. That would describe both myself and my mare. We have done a few short rides at home but never in a group. Is this available?

Hi Janet, we can evaluate your riding skills and that of your mare and will try to work around it at best as we can. It might be a good idea to arrange a ride with a friend(s) to see how she does in a group prior to the actual event. We may also see if there is demand for an intro-ride for beginners, providing there is any demand. It would be posted on here and on our FB page.

Thank you for your response. We do show QuarterHorse and ride with others in the practice pen. I guess my concern would be trail riding with riders that like to gallop or with horses that may be somewhat high or frenzied

          Hi Janet,

most of our rides stay generally at a walk here in the Dufferin. ‘IF’ there are any groups wanting to trot, they stay very small, the riders usually know each other’s ability well, and they will announce any speed before heading out. As there are other users (as in cyclists) in the forest we rarely go out cantering when in a group, also keeping in mind that the forest does not permit ‘galloping’ at high speeds. We also don’t mind breaking up the groups if any horses get too exited. So not to worry… come out and enjoy!

That is very encouraging. Thank you. I will review your schedule
