ABOUT US

The Ontario Trail Riders Association (OTRA) is a non-profit organization promoting a legacy of horseback riding trails in Ontario for today’s equestrians and for generations to come. OTRA was founded in 1970 by Mavis and Brian McCullum, two people who were dedicated to keeping horses out on the trail. Instilling a reverence in nature, respect for all lands, and protection of the environment, and harmony with all trail users.

RIDES

For a truly unique experience, OTRA offers you the opportunity to view, first hand, the beauty of sparkling lakes and rivers, gently rolling farm lands scenic wilderness areas with your horse on our organized trail rides.

OTRA welcomes both English and Western riders and all breeds of horses. Each horse owner is responsible for their own horse and accepts the three C’s of horsemanship:

Rides are scheduled in many areas of Ontario from May to October. Each year, members are provided with profiles and maps of scheduled rides, descriptions of riding area, information on the terrain, facilities available and horse and rider requirements.

Members can participate in gathering information on trails, ride testing, mapping, assisting in the development of new trails and organizing the social and educational functions of OTRA.

SOCIAL

OTRA brings riders together who share the same passion and commitment to promote, develop and preserve Ontario’s beautiful trails. Join our weekend rides with great camping, get-togethers, exciting various length trail rides, tack auction, live music and songs around the campfire. OTRA weekends are an excellent way to meet new friends and share stories with old ones.

EDUCATION

Our weekend workshop on “Camping with your horse” gives horse owners and first-time trail riders a chance to learn how to ties knows, to picket a horse safety, to pack for a day or a week-long ride and be familiar with safety on the trails. The Annual General Meeting brings our membership together for a day filled with dynamic speakers, colourful slide presentations and other equine-related activities.
